Established in 2008, the Boone Pickens Digital Geology Fund of the AAPG Foundation has been provided through a generous contribution by the T. Boone Pickens Foundation. The $9.4 million gift is designated for the purpose of accelerating and sustaining AAPG’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) publishing program for the geosciences community through the AAPGF-OSU Geoscience GIS Consortium.
This cooperative effort between the AAPG Foundation and Oklahoma State University’s Geology and Geography departments not only creates new GIS projects but also provides OSU students with invaluable experience. Numerous geology professors and students are involved with new research projects while OSU Cartography Services gives students real-world mapping experience within the geography department.
